Surrogacy: A Scientific Guide

Home | BLOG | Surrogacy: A Scientific Guide

Surrogacy is a medically assisted reproductive method that enables women with serious medical or anatomical conditions, which prevent them from carrying a pregnancy, to have a child. In Greece, the process is governed by a clear legal framework and requires strict compliance with medical, psychological, and legal criteria.

At Southeastern Fertility Solutions, we implement surrogacy with scientific excellence, respect for all parties involved, and full legal assurance.

Legal Framework in Greece
According to Greek legislation, the surrogate (gestational carrier) must:
• Be between 25–54 years old (over 50 requires special court approval).
• Have no history of more than two cesarean sections.
• Obtain court approval before starting the process.
• Have given birth to at least one child.

Additionally, the surrogate cannot use her own eggs, ensuring that the child’s genetic identity belongs exclusively to the intended parents.

Finding a Surrogate
All legal procedures are followed. In every case, the candidate surrogate undergoes a complete medical, psychological, legal, and social evaluation.

The Role of Southeastern Fertility Solutions
Our team undertakes:
• Legal guidance and assistance in obtaining the court approval.
• Comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation of the surrogate and the intended parents.
• Transparent management of all medical and financial procedures.
• Ensuring the well-being and support of all parties at every stage.

After Birth
Once the delivery is completed:
• The child is immediately registered under the intended biological parents.
• The surrogate retains no parental rights or obligations.
• The child is considered fully and legally the biological child of the intended parents.
