Age is a decisive factor in the prognosis of in vitro fertilization (IVF), due to the gradual decline in both the quantity and quality of eggs.
IVF with Own Eggs
The best prognosis is observed under the age of 35. After 35, and especially after 40, success rates decrease, and multiple cycles are often required, depending on individual factors and the laboratory environment.
Use of Donor Eggs
The use of donor eggs overcomes the limitations of ovarian age and offers higher chances of pregnancy at advanced maternal ages.
Practical Limits
In Greece, IVF is legally permitted up to the age of 54, following medical evaluation of safety and overall health.
The decision is always based on an individualized assessment (age, ovarian reserve, underlying medical conditions, endometrial health). The SFS team provides responsible guidance on the realistic options available.
